Wednesday, April 13, 2016, 12:38 PM – A combination of Pacific and Gulf moisture will bring heavy rain to the Prairies later this week, with some places set to see upwards of 70 mm.
“Over the next few days southern and central Manitoba will be on the receiving end of copious amounts of rainfall from two different low pressure systems,” says Weather Network meteorologist Nadine Hinds-Powell. “The second of which will be the more prolific as it will channel moisture from the southern U.S. into the region.”
The first low pressure system slides eastward across Alberta into Saskatchewan through Thursday bringing the bulk of the rain to central and northern Saskatchewan (up to 20 mm), and less than 5 mm for central and southern Manitoba.
“By Friday morning however, a combination of Pacific as well as Gulf moisture begins to stream into southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba,” says Hinds-Powell. “Through the day Friday and Saturday, rain continues for southern Manitoba as the moisture streams in around the circulation of the blocking high situated over the Great Lakes.”
